Updated 7/8/2021 4:50 PM As restrictions are lifted, the arts and culture sector in Illinois recognizes that continuing to get their audiences and communities vaccinated is important for safely getting back to in-person arts activities. Artists in 24 regions across Illinois are creating over 72 pro-vaccination projects this summer as vaccines are now widely available.
Aurora has come together to host a festival for the project entitled Back the Vax from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 31. We re drawing our community together with local music, art, and culture. A mobile vaccine clinic will be on-site and, because art makes life more colorful, we ll have a confetti cannon to shoot off whenever someone gets a shot, says Jenn Evans, director of Aurora Public Art. ....
Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry to hold mobile food pantry July 9
Posted7/8/2021 7:37 PM A mobile food pantry will be held by Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 9, at the former Carson Pirie Scott store, 970 N. Lake St. in Aurora. Area residents are invited to drive through to receive groceries. Admission is free. Identification and registration are not required.
Pantry volunteers will load bags of free food and other items into guests vehicles. Food for 200 families will be available on a first-come basis. Items to be distributed include granola bars, fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, pasta, pasta sauce, eggs, ground beef, cereal, applesauce, apple juice and box dinners. ....
Aurora Public Library The Aurora Public Library has two new pieces of public art: a mural created by artist Adam Swanson on the east exterior wall, and a photograph taken by Carol Bowman inside the library. We will be hosting a celebration of the art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 3 (during the Celebrate Aurora event). Both artists will be at the celebration. The Friends of the Library will provide ice cream or icy treats, and the library will have take-and-make craft kits for children (while supplies last). Hibbing Public Library Hello library lovers! The library has expanded our hours! You can now come into the library for express browsing and computers Monday through Thursday, from 11:00 to 3:00.
