Date Time New route for Araluen Road is underway Work is underway to construct a new route around a significant landslide on Araluen Road, approximately 22 kilometres from Moruya. Eurobodalla Council has negotiated agreement and funding for the alternate route, which director of infrastructure Warren Sharpe described as “a safer and far more resilient solution for the community into the future”. “We expect to have sealed the road there by Christmas, with residential traffic allowed through the worksite in November. These dates are subject to reasonable weather and to no other significant challenges being identified during construction,” Mr Sharpe said. “The new route goes through private land and state forest and we thank both landowners and Forestry NSW for their collaboration in helping make this improved outcome possible for the whole community. ....

Date Time Araluen Road resilience work Work is underway to upgrade the temporary detour around the Knowles Creek landslide on Araluen Road. Eurobodalla Council will grade and gravel re-sheet the Forestry trails at a cost of around $450,000, taking three to four weeks to complete the work. The roadsides have also been sprayed to bring regrowth under control and maintain sight lines for those using the detour. The aim is to provide a safer route back to Moruya for residents of the Araluen valley while a permanent road solution is built. Two landslides caused by fires and floods, one last November at Knowles Creek 23km west of Moruya and the other in May at the 43km mark near Merricumbene, have kept the road closed to all but residents. ....
Date Time No easy fix for Merricumbene landslide Plans are being made to re-open Araluen Road at the latest landslide site near Merricumbene, but it will be no easy fix. Rock and debris fell onto the roadway on Friday evening, completely blocking the road in mountainous terrain around 43km west of Moruya. Council’s Director of Infrastructure Warren Sharpe OAM said the road cannot simply be cleared and re-opened to traffic due to instability on both the high and low sides of the road. “The longitudinal cracking on the low side means part of the road is now falling away over a length of several hundred metres as well as the landslide from the high side. ....
