Vegetables, fruits sold through 100 pushcarts in Erode Corporation limits Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA With 255 vehicles involved in selling vegetables, fruits and provisions in the Corporation limits every day, the civic body has permitted traders to sell vegetables in 100 pushcarts on Thursday. After the total lockdown, the Nethaji Daily Vegetable and Fruit Market and the Uzhavar Sandhai at Sampath Nagar were closed and traders were permitted to sell vegetables, fruits and provisions through vehicles to cover all the 60 wards in the civic body limits. Since these vehicles could not cover all the 3,200 streets, residents in many areas lodged complaints with the civic body demanding additional vehicles. ....
Vaccination camp held for political functionaries Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA At a vaccination camp held for frontline workers at a private hall at Sanarmedu in Lakkapuram Panchayat in Modakkurichi Taluk, politicians and their families were administered with the COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday. On Wednesday, the panchayat circulated a message on social media stating that camp would be held for the 18-44 age group at the hall in which, as per government norms, only frontline workers would be administered the vaccine, from 9.30 a.m. However, only a select number people, including family members, friends and relatives of the politicians were present at the venue at 8 a.m. The main gate of the hall was kept locked. Since people gathered outside the gate, the police were informed, and they asked the crowd to disperse. ....
District BJP seeks transparency in vaccine distribution Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA The Bharatiya Janata Party has urged the district administration to ensure transparency in the distribution of vaccines and wanted the details made available on a website for the benefit of the public. In a petition jointly submitted by Modakkurichi MLA C. Saraswati and party’s district president S.A. Sivasubramaniyan, they said there was a huge shortage of vaccines in the district and people were confused about its availability. “About 15 lakh doses are available with the State government and vaccine stock in the district is not known to anyone”, the petition said. They said vaccines were not available at government hospitals, primary health centres or private hospitals in the district. Of the total population of 24 lakh, less than two lakh people were vaccinated. ....
