Helen Maxine (Zeller) Cunningham, 93, passed away April 9, 2021, at Cedarwood Assisted Living in Fairbury, Nebraska, after a brief illness.
Helen was born Sept. 5, 1927 to Vernal (Bateman) and Dannie Zeller in Marion, Kansas.
She attended high school in Marion and graduated in 1945. She continued her education at the Wesley Medical Center School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas and received her RN degree in 1948.
She began her 45-year career in Kansas and held various nursing positions in Washington State, Utah, and Nebraska. She worked as a critical care nurse at Lincoln General, Saint Elizabeth’s, and Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, until she retired in 1992. ....

A llama dolly? Couple's farm is a real menagerie

If you drive west of Goessel, you might encounter a pasture with a flock of sheep overseen by a pair of llamas.
While it might seem odd to encounter Peruvian camelids in the midwest, to Carol Duerksen and Maynard Knepp, they’re just another part of their farm.
“We got our first llama shortly after we moved here, 33 years ago,” Carol said. “They’re here to help guard the sheep.”
Although llamas usually are seen as cute animals, popular in toys, video games, and other media, they make fantastic guard animals.
They are intelligent, oftentimes stubborn, and more than capable of handling animals that go after sheep. They will chase coyotes and wild dogs that come too close, rearing up to stomp them into submission. ....

This was a tough one. My middle son, Jack (5) had a run-in with a retaining wall.
It’s amazing just how fast it can happen. This is a great reminder of how important it is to keep an eye on those kiddos this summer. Kids will be kids, no doubt, but we’ve gotta keep ‘em safe! :) ....
