Nobel laureate Peter Doherty is predicting politicians will be reluctant to reopen Australia next year even as vaccination rates surge and people stop dying of Covid.
The immunologist, 80, renowned for discovering the role of T cells in the immune system, said Australians living through lockdowns were conditioned to the zero Covid strategy.

Man suffers cuts to his neck in chainsaw accident in Sydney
A tradesperson suffered significant blood loss when a chainsaw kicked back and slashed his neck and shoulder while doing construction work in Sydney s north.
Two NSW Ambulance paramedics and a helicopter were sent to Chatswood West just before 9.30am after reports of the injury.
A man in his 30s was treated for lacerations to his shoulder and neck and taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition.
The man received some lacerations to the shoulder and neck, Inspector Dennis Bungener from NSW Ambulance said.
This is a timely reminder to take all safety precautions when using power tools at work or at home. ....
