A 20-year-old nursery assistant from Caersws has raised thousands of pounds in memory of her two gorgeous cousins Casey and Kelly Breese, and their dad Nick as she plans to take part in a charity skydive this summer. Ffion Jones has already reached her £3,000 fundraising target but is now hoping to raise £5,000 for two charities, close to her heart – the Wales Air Ambulance and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, in Liverpool. This July marks a decade since 12-year-old Casey Breese died when a goal post fell on top of him when he was playing with friends in a recreational field in Caersws. ....

Sign Up The report will be discussed by the county s clinical commissioning group Niche Health and Social Care Consulting looked at a sample of patients who died between January and June last year and identified cases where their wishes were “not respected”, and others where care was delayed or planning and documentation were inadequate. Out of a subgroup of 124 cases within the sample, 42 per cent received “good or excellent” care while 38 per cent received “poor or very poor” care. ....

Sign Up Royal Shrewsbury Hospital Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) guardians exist in all NHS trusts, and they act in an independent capacity to make hospitals safer for patients and staff by encouraging a more honest environment where raising concerns is common practice. A new report to the board of directors at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, which runs Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital, says 302 concerns were raised by staff throughout 2020/21, compared to 145 in 2019/20. ....

West Midlands Ambulance Service said that one woman was treated for injuries, not believed to be serious, before being taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment. The second patient was discharged at the scene. The road closure led to long tailbacks and slow traffic as drivers were diverted through roads in Harlescott. ....
Meanwhile, Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust (Shropcom) faced losing around £260,000 with 1,625 unattended appointments. Health bosses have urged people to attend their appointments, or let someone know if they need to cancel. Stacey Keegan, chief nurse and patient safety officer at RJAH, said: “We would like to advise patients that it is important you attend at the date and time you are offered in your appointment letter. If for any reason you find you cannot attend, then please let us know as soon as possible as we may then be able to offer your slot to someone else. “Over the last 12 months, we have done a large number of appointments over the telephone and virtually but when people need to attend face-to-face appointments, it is safe for them to do so. ....
