Little Manila Rising is educating people and bringing awareness about Filipino Americans in the Stockton area. They’re trying to empower future generations to remember and reclaim their history.
“Stockton has such a rich history,” Jaelyn Galasinao Sanidad, a community educator at Little Manila Rising After School Program, said. “Ironically, no one really talks about it.”

Little Manila Rising has been around for more than 20 years.
It started in 1999 when two new college graduates Dawn Mabalon and Dillon Delvo came back to Stockton and found demolition equipment in front of what remained of the Little Manila, a hub for the Filipino American community during the early to mid 1900s. STOCKTON, Calif. The Stockton Unified School District considers Flora Arca Mata one of California’s first Filipino-American teachers and someone who helped pave the way for other Filipino-American teachers.

1. Laura Campos brings annual Charles Washington award back to Edison High 
Campos was named the 2020 winner of The Stockton Record’s Charles Washington Award. The award is given each year to an outstanding student-athlete who is also supportive of the community.
