Carpe Musicam! celebrates Christmas

The orchestra was in fine form.
GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The fact that Carpe Musicam! s Let s Celebrate Christmas! concerts held on 15 and 16 December at the Dutch Reformed Church Blanco in George were not packed to the rafters, as has been the norm at the last few Christmas concerts, was through no fault of theirs.
Strict Covid regulations severely restricted audiences. The lucky few who managed to obtain tickets were more than rewarded for their courage and effort.
The orchestra was in fine form from the very first note of Leroy Anderson s Christmas Festival Overture, nimbly skipping through the many time and key changes that give the work its light and bubbly air. ....

The nation has spoken, the list is in, and Songs of Praise yesterday revealed the UK’s Top 10 Favourite Christmas Carols. We sing them in churches, chapels, streets and schools every year, wrap presents and decorate our Christmas trees to their accompaniment, know all the words by heart – but how much do we know about the stories behind them?

Showtime at UWI Chapel despite COVID - Virtual carol service dazzles viewers

The much-anticipated, decades-old Kingston Christmas tradition of the annual University Singers carol service took place last Sunday at the University Chapel, at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona campus.
The festival of nine lessons and carols was viewed live by hundreds on YouTube, and it has subsequently been already enjoyed online by a global audience of over 20,000 music lovers, faithfuls, and past and present members and friends of the university’s worldwide community. This event has been jam-packed as far back as memory recalls, from the 70s, and securing a seat required early arrival. This year was radically different. COVID-19 dictated the protocols of the service and how the music was presented. But despite the pandemic, the event found its largest audience ever, and it dazzled with great fanfare, serving up a magical blend of bible readings and Christmas carols, telling the story of the birth of Christ. ....

When my family last lived in Towcester (1600 to 1635 AD) the web was something you had to clean out of your thatched roof to prevent spiders dropping into your soup. Good job.
