A Providence man charged in 1st District Court with sexually assaulting a young woman pleaded guilty to amended charges on Wednesday. Richard Royal Cornell, 74, pleaded guilty to single counts of first-degree forcible sodomy and second-degree forcible sexual abuse. As part of a plea agreement, three first-degree felonies and a single second-degree felony were dismissed. Prosecutors agreed to a concurrent sentencing, and Cornell is to receive credit for time served, defense attorney Shannon Demler told the court. Chaz Yoyo Redfearn, 28, pleaded guilty to amended charges on Monday stemming from a police chase and a golf course wreck that happened last week. Redfearn pleaded guilty to one third-degree felony and a misdemeanor for the incident. One felony and four misdemeanors were dismissed as part of a plea deal. A 73-year-old man charged with multiple sexual assault felonies had his jury trial cancelled on Wednesday. Richard Royal Cornell appeared in 1st District Court virtually from the Cache County Jail for a final pretrial conference. During his appearance, Cornellâs jury trial â set to begin on April 7 â was struck from the courtâs calendar due to COVID-19 restrictions on the courts. Judge Brian Cannell said a recent order from Utah Supreme Court Chief Justice Matthew Durrant pushed out jury trials until June. According to the order issued on Feb. 19, all in-person oral arguments and appellate court committee meetings are suspended through June 30. ....
