All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) director Randeep Guleria on Saturday received a vaccine against the novel coronavirus during the first phase of the inoculation drive.
The jab was administered to the AIIMS chief moments after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the vaccination drive across the country.

Terming the approval for Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for use in the UK as a big step forward , AIIMS Delhi Director Dr Randeep Guleria on Wednesday said that India will have the COVID-19 vaccine within days. On Wednesday, the UK approved a cheaper and easy-to-handle COVID-19 vaccine developed by scientists at Oxford University and produced by AstraZeneca for human use. This is the second coronavirus vaccine to be cleared for rollout in Britain after the Pfizer/BioNTech jabs.
This is very good news that AstraZeneca got approval for its vaccine by UK regulatory authorities. They have robust data and in India and the same vaccine is being developed by the Serum Institute of India. This is a big step forward not only for India but many parts of the world, Dr Guleria told ANI in an interview. ....

Randeep Guleria said that new Covid-19 strain is more infectious and is a matter of concern.
It is possible that the new UK strain of coronavirus could have entered our country even before December, AIIMS director Randeep Guleria has said as he underlined that the mutant strain was first reported in Britain in September. Speaking to news agency ANI, Guleria said that the new Covid-19 strain is more infectious and is a matter of concern. According to him, it is 70 per cent more infectious thanÂ the existing disease.Â
There is a possibility that this may happen because we must remember that this strain was first reported in the end of September and there were people who have an infection with this strain in UK, he said. ....
