JAMESPORT, NY Keri Lynn Stromski, 48, a beloved kindergarten teacher from Jamesport, died on April 6 after a fierce battle with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer, leaving a trail of tears so far and wide that all of Riverhead seemed to be weeping. Stromski made headlines around the world in March when one of her kindergarten students, whom she d been instructing virtually, made a hug machine along with this family so that his favorite teacher could hug again, something she d been missing so much. The story went viral and suddenly, the world knew something Riverhead had known all along Keri Stromski was a bright light of love for the many who blossomed under her tutelage. ....
Ursula Mary Tomaszewski Ursula Mary Tomaszewski (née Bonavich), a longtime resident of Jamesport, died peacefully at Long Island Community Hospital on April 11, 2021. Most people knew her by the nickname Bonnie. She was 99. Ursula was born in Quakake, Pa., on Aug. 16, 1921, to Magdaline (Klink) and John Bonavich, both of Lithuanian ancestry. She was the youngest of four children. Ursula was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Lewis Tomaszewski. She was also predeceased by her sister, Margaret (Peter) Pappas and two brothers, John Bonavich and Alfonso Bonavich. She is survived by her son, Michael, and her daughter, Bonnie (Donald) Kisiel, both of Shoreham. Also surviving her are three grandchildren, Lara (Michael) Asirvadem, Stephen (Kristina) Kisiel and Bryan Kisiel; three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Noah and Juliana Kisiel; and two nephews, Peter Pappas and George (Caroline) Pappas of Pennsylvania. ....

Keri Lynn Stromski lived her life by that motto as a teacher at Aquebogue Elementary School, where she inspired countless students, and as a fierce advocate for fellow cancer thrivers, an unforeseen role she accepted to bring hope to those in need as she bravely confronted her own fate with stage four breast cancer. Jill Kubetz, Ms. Stromski’s sister, said that moment of time, along with compassion and a hug, can make all the difference. “We know this because we hugged the entire Town of Riverhead over the past two days,” she said. ....
