WOOD-TV 8 ROXAND TWP. State police say the driver of a stolen vehicle was killed in a shooting involving an Ionia County sheriff’s deputy early Wednesday in Eaton County. The incident happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. on Charlotte Street near W. Grand Ledge Highway in Mulliken in Eaton County reports WOOD-TV 8. State police say the deputy stopped the vehicle on Charlotte Street then a collision happened and shots were fired. The driver of the stolen vehicle was killed. The deputy, who has worked with the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office for three years, was not injured. It’s unknown where the vehicle was stolen. ....

State police said the “critical incident” happened in the 200 block of Charlotte Street in Eaton County’s village of Mulliken, police said. Detectives are responding to the scene. The incident was reported around 5:25 a.m. Wednesday, May 19. State police said that the deputy made a traffic stop before a collision occurred involving the stolen vehicle and patrol car. The deputy, who had been with Ionia County Sheriff’s Department about two years, was not hurt. ....

Michigan State Police said that an Ionia County sheriff’s deputy pursued the stolen pickup truck into Eaton County’s village of Mulliken, west of Grand Ledge. The pursuit ended with a traffic stop in the 200 block of Charlotte Street. Soon after the stop, there was “some sort of collision” involving the pickup and patrol car before shots were fired, state police said. The man, who state police called the suspect/driver, died at the scene after being shot. He was alone in the pickup truck. His identity has not been determined, state police said. ....
