VANCOUVER Firefighters working to tame a trio of wildfires in B.C. s Central Kootenay region were impacted by an illegal drone in their airspace on Wednesday. Officials said the drone was spotted hovering over the flames at the Arrow Lake wildfire complex, and that there were multiple other people operating unmanned aerial vehicles in the vicinity. The presence of drones near an active wildfire can slow down, or completely shut down, aerial firefighting efforts due to safety concerns, the B.C. Wildfire Service said in a news release. If a drone collides with firefighting aircraft, the consequences could be deadly. ....

by Contributor on Monday July 26 2021 The Octopus Creek Wildfire south of Fauquier is highly visible from Edgewood, Fauquier, and Needles, remains active and is currently listed as a wildfire of note by the BCWS. BC Wildfire Service photo The Regional District of Central Kootenay wanted to relay the information to the public regarding fires of note in the Southeast Fire Centre. Trozzo Creek Wildfire The Trozzo Creek wildfire, located approximately 7.5 kilometres northeast of Winlaw, is active and is currently listed as a wildfire of note by BCWS. Crews continue guard construction on Elliot Anderson Ridge, South Lemon drainage and along the Lemon Forest Service Road, while holding current containment lines on the west perimeter in the Trozzo drainage. The fire growth is toward the east (Baldface Creek) and south (Sproule Creek). ....
