By CARLA SLAVEY Commonwealth Journal Jul 13, 2021 12 hrs ago A meeting between the community and state officials to discuss the safety of the U.S. 27-Ky. 70 intersection will take place Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center in Eubank. The meeting is intended to be an informative session, with representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet â from Somersetâs District 8 Office and from other districts around the states â on hand to present to the public why they feel the safest alternative for that intersection is the Restricted Crossing U-Turn, or RCUT. Eubank Mayor Eddie Hicks said he also would like to see those officials hear from members of the community who still want the state to put in a traffic light instead. ....

Steve Crabtree Photo Two utility poles were heavily damaged by a box truck veering off East Mt. Vernon Street early Friday morning. A rental truck hauling mail crashed into two utility poles near downtown Somerset early Friday morning. The single-vehicle accident occurred around 4 a.m. on East Mt. Vernon Street between May Street and Grande Avenue. Somerset Police Captain Mike Correll reported that Jose Rodriguez of Cincinnati, Ohio, was westbound on East Mt. Vernon when he looked away from the road as he approached May and swerved off the street. The chassis cab truck he was driving, which was outfitted with a box-style bed and had been rented from Penske Truck Rental s Cincinnati location, then struck two utility poles. ....
Dec 16, 2020 Dec 16, 2020 Blasting has begun near the proposed cloverleaf interchange at Ky.80-Ky.461 and blasting operations at Mile Point 0 near the intersection of Ky. 80 are expected to continue through Friday. Amber Hale, public information officer for the Highway Departmentâs District 8, said blasting operations are expected to occur at various times during the day and motorists should expect short delays and are encouraged to allow extra time to reach their destinations. Bizzack Construction LLC, Lexington, was awarded a construction contract in the amount of $49,454,225.41 to build a cloverleaf interchange at the accident-prone intersection. It includes four-laning Ky. 461 from Ky. 80 north to near Buck Creek bridge and building new entryways at Valley Oak Commerce Complex . ....
