The owner of a drive-thru coffee joint in Mount Shasta is hoping an online petition that’s garnered more than 1,000 signatures will keep Starbucks from coming to town.
Suzzanne Mendenhall opened The Coffee Brake in the Rite Aid parking lot 20 years ago. Starbucks is eyeing the dilapidated KFC/Taco Bell building, which is almost directly across W. Lake Street from the Coffee Brake.
“Multinational corporations have no place in our rural town – where the residents depend and rely on locally owned businesses,” said Amber Nelson, who created the petition for Mendenhall last week. “The opening of a Starbucks in Mount Shasta opens the door to further undue development. Mount Shasta will lose its essence, making it hardly distinguishable from a chaotic and bustling commercial city.” ....

Spring might be right around the corner, but winter is really trying to go out with a bang. It was another busy week in Montgomery County.

VOLUNTEERS AT the Save A Lot building vaccination site were presently surprised recently at the end of their shift when several Brothers pizzas appeared. They were courtesy of the members of American Legion Post 72 who wanted to show their support of the numerous volunteers who have worked many hours assisting in the smooth running of the vaccination site. Amber Reed from the Montgomery County Health Department said the volunteers were indeed surprised and grateful for the show of support. Thanks to the generously of the Legion, pizzas will continue to ....

Amber Reed | Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Baltimore

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Baltimore (BGCMB) has hired
Amber Reed to serve as its director of social & emotional wellness.
Reed’s role will be to direct and manage the organization’s initiatives related to social and emotional wellness for staff members and the youth BGCMB serves across Baltimore. She will also manage community relations, as well as mental health resources and services for BGCMB families.
Reed is a licensed clinical social worker by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners. She earned her Masters of Social Work at Morgan State University where she graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. In addition to her new role with BGCMB, Reed works as a Mental Health Therapist for Balance Point Wellness. ....
