Marianne Faithfull: The 60s were fun but also hard


Marianne Faithfull found the 1960s “difficult”
The ‘As Tears Go By’ singer – who left her husband John Funbar to embark on a relationship with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger in 1966 – saw her career take off during the decade but also developed a drug addiction, and looking back now, although she had “fun” at the time, it wasn’t quite as smooth-sailing as other people remember.
Speaking to the new issue of Uncut magazine, she said: “I did have fun in the 60s but I also found it really hard.

The topic this week is about prayers. A few comments about the practices of praying should be helpful.
Research reveals that 55% of people who pray in America pray daily and 16% pray weekly. (https://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/frequency-of-prayer/).

In the past, I have written about the history and types of prayer. This week’s question came from a reader who asked if I believed that God answers prayers. Since the question was asked about my beliefs, I will answer as a lifelong Christian. My answer is yes, but I feel that it is necessary to review the topic. First, I think that prayer, personal or communal, is a key component of faith. Second, motivation for the prayer request needs self-scrutiny. Third, understanding the instructions from scripture about prayer is an informative and inspiring approach to faith. ....

Jefferson County Public School students involved in the Black Student Unions and Justice Now Groups recently participated in a “Rising Poet Competition.”Inspired by Amanda Gorman, these students were invited to submit poems on their experience as Black Youth in Louisville. The poem topics were focused on the following subjects: What it means to be Black The Black experience in Louisville or the U.S. in 2020 The change you wish to see A Black history related topic A panel of judges narrowed down the submissions to these 5 finalists, who were then invited to WLKY to record their poems.
