More changes are underway along U.S. Highway 69 in McAlester, affecting frontage roads running beside the highway.
The U.S. Highway 69 west frontage road permanently becomes a one-way road between South Peaceable Road and Village Boulevard effective Friday, May 1, according to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Another change is closing the current Village Boulevard frontage road entrances to U.S. Highway 69. Drivers needing to enter the U.S. Highway 69 northbound lane can access it from the east frontage road at the on-ramp just south of Wade Watts Boulevard.
Motorists wanting to head south on U.S. Highway 69 can turn around at Wade Watts Boulevard to the temporary on-ramp near South Peaceable Road. An alternative route is to go south to S. 14th Street to access the highway s southbound lanes. ....

Work begins Monday on Phase 2 of the U.S. Highway 69 project, with signs posted along Highway 69 south to warn motorists of the new highway driving conditions while work is ongoing.

Those were some of the new conditions along U.S. Highway 69 in McAlester as Phase 2 of the highway reconstruction project got underway Monday.
Phase 2 of the project along the highway, also known as the George Nigh Expressway where it wends through McAlester, will be on a larger scale than the projectâs $13 million Phase I. Phase 2 is budgeted at $32 million and projected to take 1.5 years to complete. ....

Final phase of Highway 69 project starts Monday

A contractor is expected to begin mobilizing around 8 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 11, for the final phase of the U.S. Highway 69 project in McAlester â with construction of an underpass beneath the highway included in the plans.
A couple of initial impacts are expected, according to Oklahoma Department of Transportation Information Officer Lisa Shearer-Salim, including:
â¢ Northbound and southbound traffic on Highway 69 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction from Fourteenth Street to Village Boulevard.
â¢ The west frontage, or service road, from Fourteenth Street to Village Boulevard will be closed to open up room for drainage work and a temporary median crossover will be constructed near Fourteenth Street. ....
