State Department sends official to Beirut as stalemate drags on

The US State Department is dispatching a senior official to Lebanon this week to push the country’s leaders to form a government after months of political deadlock. 
Undersecretary for Political Affairs David Hale will visit Beirut on Tuesday through Thursday, making him the highest-ranking US official to travel to the small Mediterranean country since President Joe Biden took office in January.  ....

Thousands march in central Beirut as political deadlock persists

BEIRUT, March 12 (Reuters) - Thousands marched in central Beirut on Friday demanding a new independent government to lift Lebanon out of its deepening crisis as frustration over the country’s financial meltdown grew.
Lebanon’s economic crisis is posing the biggest threat to its stability since the 1975-1990 civil war.
Erupting in late 2019, it has since wiped out jobs, locked people out of their bank deposits, slashed 85% of the value of its currency and raised the risk of widespread hunger.
“In light of the terrible failure of those in power socially and politically we are going to the streets to ask for a new independent government and an alternative to the current system,” a statement by one group of protesters said. ....

Former Interior Minister Marwan Charbel predicted Tuesday during an interview on Al Jadeed V that 6 Lebanese leaders will be assassinated but refrained from naming them
Former Interior Minister Marwan Charbel declared on Tuesday: “There are 6 of the most important personalities at risk of assassination in Lebanon, among them are heads of political parties.”
Charbel made the predication during an interview on the Al-Jadid TYV channel.
He revealed that “Bkerke is making an effort to bridge the gap between President Michel Aoun and PM -designate Saad Hariri, and it has reached the yellow light after he was red, waiting for the green light. ....
