(Getty Images) Cairo – Khaled Mahmoud Clashes between rival militias broke out again in the Libyan capital Tripoli soon after parliament granted the interim government its vote of confidence. The fighting took place between militias loyal to the outgoing Government of National Accord (GNA). Local media and witnesses reported that Turkish drones were flying at a low altitude over the city of Tajoura east of Tripoli. The aircraft had taken off from the capital’s Mitiga airport on a surveillance mission. Tanks and military vehicles were also spotted in Tripoli amid the spike in tensions caused by the militia clashes. ....

(UNSMIL) Cairo – Khaled Mahmoud The United Nations Support Mission in Libya released a list of 45 candidates to join the new transitional executive authority, comprised of the Presidential Council and prime minister positions. “The Mission extends its heartfelt appreciation for the efforts of the three-person verification committee, drawn from the membership of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), to review the candidates’ applications in line with the eligibility criteria consensually agreed upon by the LPDF in Tunis,” it said in a statement on Saturday. “All candidates pledged to respect the LPDF Roadmap with regard to the preparatory period paving the way for the holding of national elections on December 24, 2021,” it added. ....

Reuters file photo Cairo - Khalid Mahmoud Egypt has remained silent on an optimism expressed by Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), as a high-ranking delegation concluded a first visit by Egyptian officials to Tripoli since 2014. Deputy Prime Minister of the GNA Ahmed Omar Maiteeq stated that the meeting with the Egyptian delegation was a sign of solid bilateral ties. During the meeting, they discussed activating economic and security agreements, as well as reopening the Egyptian embassy in Tripoli and resuming flights between the two countries. ....
