The scrapping of the Ministry of Aviation (MoA) after four years of serving as the government’s special-purpose ministry as far as specific policy development to enhance growth of the sector is concerned has generated divided opinion among stakeholders.
While some maintain that the move was a step in the right direction that would help save the government s purse and also facilitate a holistic transport agenda with all the sub-sectors, others totally disagree, saying that air travel and its related industries needed a dedicated ministry to drive its growth.

Massive Disinfection Carried Out At Kotoka International Airport

The Ministry of Aviation (MoA) and Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) are leaving nothing to chance in their effort to ensure that the country’s airports are safe and secure in the midst of the new coronavirus disease (Covid-19)
It is the light of the above that the two state entities engaged waste management and disinfection experts, Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), to undertake a massive disinfection exercise at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The two-hour exercise, which was carried out from Thursday, January 14, around 11:30 p.m., to Friday, January 15, 1:30 a.m., was to help rid the airport of Covid-19 tendencies. ....

An Aviation Expert, Capt Victor Kwesi Amoah, has called on the government to invest in the construction and development of state-of-the-art airports across the country to help transform the economy.
Instead of venturing into an airline business, he said the government should rather channel its resources into the construction of modern airports across the 16 regions in the country.
That, he said, would be a significant step to double the country’s economy through increase in revenue generation, job creation and increase in tourism. ....

As part of the country’s efforts to fight the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, the Ministry of Aviation (MoA) and Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) on Monday evening undertook the third phase of disinfection exercise at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The two-hour exercise, which was carried out from 9:30 p.m., to 11:30 p.m., covered facilities at Terminal One and Two and all its open spaces.
They included restaurants, washrooms, arrival and departure halls and tarmac among others.

Briefing journalists earlier, the General Manager (GM) of Vector Control Services of Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), Reverend Ebenezer Kwame Addae, said the exercise was to augment the quarterly disinfections at the country’s airports and keep them safe for users. ....
