Foundation opens grant applications for teachers
The Cal Coast Cares Foundation has opened its application period for 2021 Educator Grants to help local teachers with classroom projects. This year, the foundation will award $40,000 in grants ranging from $500 to $2,000 per teacher. Applications are being accepted until Aug. 16 and can be completed at calcoastcu.org. The Educator Grants are provided to teachers in K-12 public, private or charter schools, and community and state colleges/universities in San Diego or Riverside counties with funds to support special classroom projects related to any of the STREAM fields (science, technology, reading, engineering, arts, and math).

When Madisen Cordell was in elementary school, a teacher used to bring her into the hallway to give her more challenging math problems. Now a high school senior, Cordell is still being called out by teachers, this time to learn during a class that she had been selected to receive an Amazon Future Engineer scholarship.
For Cordell, the honor is recognition of her success at Lake Stevens High School in Lake Stevens, Wash., and it’s a huge help as she heads off to college this fall. Of the 100 recipients from underserved and underrepresented communities to be selected by Amazon, Cordell is the lone Washington state winner.
