Vancouver Lyft Drivers Can Now Rent Toyota Mirai for $198

Toyota and Lyft have launched a new partnership that will grant Vancouver ride-share drivers access to the zero-emissions, hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai fuel cell vehicle.
The collaboration enables eligible Lyft drivers to use Toyota’s KINTO Share Canada app to pick up a Mirai at any one of three dealerships in the area for $198 per week. This does not include taxes and fees but does include insurance, scheduled maintenance, and unlimited range.
That rate, which is being touted as a bargain, will only last till August 1, after which it will increase to $288. With up to four weeks allowed behind the wheel, active Vancouver Lyft drivers hauling around more upscale clientele may be able to turn the cost of renting the Mirai into a tidy profit. ....

As thousands of Texas struggle with the fallout of this week’s winter storm, Ford Motor Company is stepping up and doing its part to help rather than, say, fly to Cancun for a vacation. The automaker is working with its expansive Lone Star State dealer network to roll out 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrids equipped with Pro Power Onboard generators.
“When an unprecedented disaster strikes, Ford answers the call,” said Andrew Frick, Ford vice president of sales for U.S. and Canada. “Texans have long been passionate advocates for Ford and our Built Ford Tough pickups; now it’s our turn to honor some of that devotion by mobilizing our inventory of generator-equipped F-150 Hybrids to help those in need of power.” ....

Lexus has big plans on the horizon for 2021 but the automaker isn’t giving them away just yet. In a press release, Lexus Canada teased an unnamed new concept car, which is meant to be an emblem of the brand’s new direction.

According to Lexus International President, Chief Branding Officer Koji Sato, “Lexus will take a new step forward in aiming to make the diversified lifestyles of our customers more rewarding.” That seems to suggest that the automaker intends to release a wider variety of models in the coming future, likely expanding the lineup beyond gas-powered sedans and SUVs. Of course, Lexus probably won’t hedge its bets on heavy-duty trucks or performance coupes, but it would be nice to the brand introduce something above the LX, a rugged variant like the Lexus GX Overland Concept, or electrified versions of models in its curre ....

The GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado truck twins were the only full-size pickups to gain market share in the United States in 2020, says General Motors vice president Steve Hill.
GM managed to sell just over a quarter of a million Sierra pickups last year, and nearly 600,000 units of the Silverado, which is based on the same truck platform.
Out of all the full-size trucks sold in the United States, they were the only two to enjoy higher sales figures in 2020 than in 2019 as other trucks floundered during the COVID-19 pandemic. ....
