WATCH: Veteran Gets Message from Secret Service on 100th Birthday

One of the two remaining survivors from the
USS Arizona marked his 100th birthday Thursday and received a special message from the White House Secret Service.
United States Navy veteran Ken Potts was working as a crane operator aboard the
USS Arizona when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He escaped with two additional sailors, according to Fox News.
“Some 80 years later, there are only two living survivors: Potts and Lou Conter, the latter turning 99 in September 2020,” the outlet noted.
Stg. Jonathan Stockeland, a Marine Corps veteran, filmed a special message for Potts from outside the White House where they met in 2017 when he gave a “Veterans Tour” in his role as a member of the Secret Service. ....

Blue Angels, Thunderbirds together in 'Super Delta' formation

The formation grew out of a series of joint training opportunities held in 2020 and 2021, and serves as a symbol of the teamwork, discipline, and skill of the men and women of our United States military forces deployed around the globe, read the Blues Instagram post.
The Super Delta is formed when six Super Hornets fly in a standard delta formation while six Thunderbird jets flank them three on each side.
The America Stands Tall parade, hosted by the American Veterans Center in Washington, D.C., will be a nationwide broadcast on ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX affiliate stations between May 29 and May 31 during the Memorial Day weekend. The flight formations will re-air in the weeks after those dates, according to the Blues. ....

MILFORD There was never any doubt where Curran Bishop would start his church.
A Georgia native raised by Rhode Islanders, Bishop founded Christ Presbyterian Church in Milford in 2020. Against all reasonable expectations, the congregation has weathered a global pandemic and seven relocations and reached its first anniversary.
Members will commemorate the occasion with an abbreviated in-person service at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Rotary Pavilion at Fowler Field. Regular services are Sundays at 10:30 a.m. at the Milford Arts Council.
“It’s been an interesting odyssey,” Bishop said of the previous 12 months that has seen his 30-member congregation meet for services in backyards, parks and a gaming cafe, among other places. ....

Crestwood honors three alumni

A Tuskegee Airman, an acclaimed Philadelphia chef and a saxophonist on âThe Late Show with Stephen Colbertâ are the first alumni chosen by Crestwood School District for a new honor.
Each of the Distinguished Alumni Award winners announced during a school board meeting Feb. 18 showed skill and social conscience throughout their careers.
Lt. Col. James Harvey, a 1942 graduate of Fairview High School, joined the Tuskegee Airmen at the end of World War II .
Lt. Col. James Harvey, a Tuskegee Airman, grew up in Nuangola.
