People with mobility issues have a right to use Helena trails

I was saddened to see the Helena City Commission direction to ban e-bikes Helenaâs city trails. The conversation was fueled by a lot of misinformation about e-bikesâ speed, legal status, and potential impact on trails. There was also a lot of flowery language about the value of nature, quietude, being stewards of the land, etc. These appeals to emotion did not necessarily specify how e-bikes eroded these values, which I would argue all user groups clearly share. They also ignored the equally emotional appeals from the disabled and ageing communities about how e-bikes provide access for those of us who are differently abled but also love Helenaâs public lands. ....

Senior College of West Central Minnesota to offer spring lectures

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. Senior College of West Central Minnesota announced its 2021 spring class schedule.
College-level scholars from across the state will provide lecture on a broad range of topics. Classes are offered via Zoom beginning Tuesday, March 16 and concluding Thursday, April. 29. Lectures are held live from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Admission for the lectures is by season membership only. The $99 registration fee covers all 14 lectures.

This week, Toyota Motor North America celebrated the production of 30 million vehicles, and we decided to do some math.
The first vehicle that Toyota produced in North America, a white Corolla FX16, rolled out of the New United Motor Manufacturing plant in Fremont, California, on Oct. 7, 1986 a little over 18.5 million minutes ago.
In other words, Toyota has since cranked out an average of 1.62 vehicles
per minute, and the automaker’s production pace is only accelerating. It reached 10 million units in 2002, 16 years after that first Corolla. It only took another seven years to produce the next 10 million, and another 12 to produce the next 10 million after that. ....

Toyota has released its 2020 North American Environmental Report, which tracks the numerous ways the company is helping reduce its environmental footprint in North America. For 2020, the automaker focused on five key areas: carbon, water, materials, biodiversity, and outreach.
These are tied to six goals that Toyota has set for 2050, which include completely eliminating all CO2 emissions across its manufacturing facilities and in the entire lifecycle of its cars.
Last year, Toyota’s 2019 report showed it had managed to reuse or recycle 565 million gallons of water across its North American plants. In 2020, it did even better, recycling 623 million gallons, equivalent to the annual water use of 19,639 average Canadians. ....
