The total number of vaccinations dropped by 23% over one week in April, an indication that North Carolina still faces challenges in achieving its vaccination goals.
Now the state Department of Health and Human Services wants to direct vaccination efforts toward neighborhoods where few people have gotten shots.
“We have likely gone through all of the people who were very ready to get their vaccine,” said Amanda Fuller-Moore, a pharmacist in the public health division of the NC Department of Health and Human Services. “They were ready to do whatever it takes. Now we’ve reached a population that is more ‘bring the vaccine to me.’” ....

The state is pausing its use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine at their clinics, following recommendations this morning from the CDC and FDA.
Following those recommendations, NCDHHS said in a statement: Our primary concern is the health and safety of all North Carolinians… The safety system in place is working as it should. If you have an appointment for Pfizer or Moderna, please go to your appointment as planned. If you have an appointment for Johnson & Johnson, your appointment will be re-scheduled.

SOUTHEASTERN NC For the first time in months, North Carolina is experiencing a downtick in cases as more than 1 million vaccines roll out in the state’s battle against Covid-19. The combination of less cases and more vaccines administered is the way to overcome this year-long worldwide pandemic, according to scientists and health professionals.
On the County Alert System, 66 North Carolina counties are in the red zone, indicating critical viral spread, while 33 are in the orange, showing substantial spread; six remain in the yellow with significant spread. New Hanover has been downgraded to orange, while Brunswick and Pender remain red. ....

PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - Pender County ranks 98th out of 100 counties in total number of vaccines per capita received since mid-December.
One Pender County commissioner is asking questions about how the state is distributing COVID-19 vaccines to counties.
Chairman George Brown sent a letter to Dr. Amanda Fuller Moore with the State Division of Public Health on behalf of all the commissioners, asking why Pender County has received so few doses compared with other counties the same size. ....

PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - The chairman of the Pender County Board of Commissioners is asking state health leaders to reconsider the number of COVID-19 vaccinations the county is being allotted.
In a letter to state pharmacist Dr. Amanda Fuller Moore, George Brown expressed “grave concerns” about reports showing Pender County ranking 98th out of 100 counties in total number of vaccinations per capita received since mid-December. ....
