Centre set to launch multiple initiatives this year to make India a major force in science & technology globally | India News

NEW DELHI: Seeking to establish India as a bio-manufacturing hub and creating a strong research ecosystem in the country, the Centre on Monday announced multiple initiatives including setting up 10 biotech URJIT (University Research Joint Industry Translational) clusters to synergize resources between research labs and industries, forming umbrella structures in nine cities for better coordination among R&D institutions and focusing on identified national priority thrust areas under National Research Foundation (NRF).
The NRF, which got a budget allocation of Rs 50,000 crore for five years, will be governed by a Board appointed by the Prime Minister, and consist of accomplished and eminent researchers and professionals. It will build on existing national strengths in research and innovation, and fill gaps in the current research and education ecosystem. ....

Budget 2021-22 in short: A vision for AatmaNirbhar Bharat

1. Health and Wellbeing
There is substantial increase in investment in Health Infrastructure and the Budget outlay for Health and Wellbeing is Rs 2,23,846 crore in BE 2021-22 as against this year’s BE of Rs 94,452 crore, an increase of 137 percentage.
The Finance Minister announced that a new centrally sponsored scheme, PM AatmaNirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana, will be launched with an outlay of about Rs 64, 180 crore over 6 years. This will develop capacities of primary, secondary, and tertiary care Health Systems, strengthen existing national institutions, and create new institutions, to cater to detection and cure of new and emerging diseases. 1. Honourable Speaker, the preparation of this Budget was undertaken in circumstances like never before. We knew of calamities that have affected a country or a region within a country, but what we have endured with COVID-19
through 2020 is sui generis.
2. When I presented the Budget 2020-21, we could not have imagined that the global economy, already in throes of a slowdown, would be pushed into an unprecedented contraction.
3. We could not have also imagined then that our people as those in other countries would have to endure the loss of near and dear ones and suffer hardships brought about due to a health crisis. ....

Allocations increased for defence, space segments in Union Budget

New Delhi: The defence budget, including outlay for payment of pensions, was increased to Rs 4.78 lakh crore for 2021-22 as against last year’s Rs 4.71 lakh crore. Excluding the pension outgo the allocation in the Union Budget for Armed Forces stands at Rs 3.62 lakh crore.
Out of total allocation, Rs 1.35 lakh crore in the Union Budget has been set aside for capital outlay to purchase new weapons, aircraft, warships and other military hardware. The Union Budget was presented in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The capital outlay in the defence budget 2020-21 was Rs 1.13 lakh crore. ....

Budget: Dept of Space allocated Rs 13,949 cr after a steep cut last year

After a steep cut last year, the Department of Space has been allocated Rs 13,949 crore in this Budget, of which Rs 8,228 crore have been earmarked for capital expenditure.
Rs 700 crore has been allocated for the New Space India Limited (NSIL), a newly formed public sector undertaking under the Department of Space.
The New Space India Limited, a PSU under the Department of Space, will execute the PSLV-CS51 launch, carrying the Amazonia Satellite from Brazil, along with a few smaller Indian satellites, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her budget speech.
NewSpace India Limited has been established to tap the benefits of the Research and Development carried out by the Department of Space and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). ....
