The town of Dartmouth has received $172,720 from the state’s Green Communities Grant program, officials announced at a July 26 Select Board meeting.
Director of Development Cody Haddad noted that funds will go toward energy-efficient upgrades around town.
This year, he said the town plans to implement new exterior lighting at Apponagansett Park, an energy management system upgrade at Dartmouth High and the Southworth Library, and updated charging stations at Town Hall and the Council on Aging.
Three town employees will also be sent to get their building operator certification.
“It’s a significant sum for us to save in the future, that’s for sure,” Select Board Chair Shawn McDonald said. “I’d be interested to see the expenditure versus what we end up saving over a period of time.”

Dartmouth Unveils Luxury Waterfront Playground
Few places on the SouthCoast are as picturesque as Apponagansett in Dartmouth, but the area is set to become even more beautiful and fun, especially for young families.
The Recreation Coordinator at Dartmouth Parks and Recreation, Becky Amaral, told Fun 107 that the town is nearing completion on what will be a gorgeous new outdoor playground for families to enjoy. There will be toys and equipment designed for children as young as two, and ranging up 12 years old.
Everything in this incredible playground is brand new, which makes it desirable enough, but building this gorgeous new playground with a waterfront view makes it next level.
