SHARE Bahrain’s art scene has been hit as hard as any sector during the pandemic, but a new gallery in Al Aali Mall, in the island’s Seef District, is providing a much-needed boost to the region’s artists. Last Oil Well is the brainchild of Canadian gallerist Frances Stafford, who is also the owner and head curator of the space, and aims to give a platform to creatives whose work was disrupted in 2020. Having already exposed the citizens of Berlin to Bahraini art through her 4:1 exhibition last year, Stafford gives the kingdom’s residents and visitors the chance to see – and buy – works by established and promising artists from Bahrain and beyond with her newest venture. ....
An array of paintings, mixed media and digital art prints from acclaimed and aspiring Bahraini artists are on show in celebration of Bahrain’s 49th National Day, writes Mai Al Khatib-Camille. The EDITION Pop-Up gallery, curated by art consultant Frances Stafford at Al Aali Shopping Complex, features artwork from well-known Abbas Yousif, multi-disciplinary visual artist Mohammed Alaabar, better known as Leon D, and artist and curator Yasmin Sharabi. Other artists involved include porcelain artist Huda Al Saie, acrylic and oil painter Noor Al Sairafi, calligrapher, cartoonist and painter Ali Al Bazzaz, painter Mohammed Al Abbasi, artist Reem Al Dossary, visual artist Fawaz Al Olaiwat and expressionist artist Mohamed Taqi. ....
