students receive Honors College pin YOUNGSTOWN Local students are among the nearly 400 Youngstown State University honors students who have received their Honors College pin. The award signifies that students have earned at least half of the honors credits needed prior to graduation. What s Up Stark? podcast gets personal with local movers and shakers The doldrums of COVID-19 inspired the creation of What s Up Stark?, a lively weekly podcast that features casual conversations with Stark County movers and shakers. Going into the pandemic, it had gotten awfully quiet, people were disconnected, said Derek Gordon, who co-hosts the hourlong episodes with his friend Brock Hutchison. I had this idea for a podcast that would bring levity and entertainment and at the same time feature people doing interesting things in the county. HARTVILLE Lou Anne Welch refuses to let the cold stop her. At least five times a week, the Fairlawn woman sits outside her mother’s window at The HomeStead at GentleBrook, a residential and assisted living facility, for a visit. “I just put on a hat and gloves,” she said last week during one of the stops. “It’s not a big deal. Sometimes, I bring a blanket. It s just . not being able to touch her that makes the visit difficult, she said. Families have long met through windows at nursing homes to remain connected after the coronavirus pandemic curtailed in-person gatherings. But now, Ohio’s cold and snowy weather is making those get-togethers a bit more uncomfortable – or at least chilly. ....
