Qatari study reveals effectiveness of vaccination, prior infection in preventing Covid-19

Doha: A study carried out by investigators and collaborators from Qatar s healthcare system and research institutes supports previous research showing that full vaccination and prior infection are both highly effective at preventing Covid-19 and rationalizes resumption of international travel in the era of Covid-19.
The research paper, published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association, involved a team of researchers from the Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, and Qatar University.
Dr Roberto Bertollini, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Public Health and Deputy National Lead for Health in All Policies, and lead study investigator, explained the study aims. Doha: Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal, Chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 has said that Qatar is still in the end of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
“The coronavirus exists in the community. The new variants like South African and UK which spread in the countries of the world are more severe,” said Dr. Al Khal while speaking in a Qatar TV programme yesterday.
To a question about the privileges to vaccinated people in gradual lifting of COVID-19 restriction, he said: “Giving some privileges to vaccinated people with both doses in phase one is not discrimination, but to protect the people.” ....

Doha: With a fast vaccination pace adopted by the Ministry of Public Health in the last many weeks, Qatar is likely to cross administering 2 million vaccine doses milestone today.
So far Qatar has administered 1,976,748 COVID-19 vaccine doses under National COVID-19 Vaccination Program. In the last five days, over 30, 000 vaccine doses were administered in the country on daily basis which reflects that Qatar is set to cross administering 2 million vaccine doses today.
According to data released by the Ministry yesterday, 32,120 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered in 24 hours. ....
