Quaker Schools Embrace Critical Race Theory

Education
The Social Order
The Society of Friends has educated children in America since 1689, when William Penn urged his new city, Philadelphia, to open Penn Charter. Over the centuries, Quaker schools became some of the East Coast’s most prestigious educational institutions. That legacy of excellence, though, is now in jeopardy as Quaker schools embrace critical race theory, undermining more than 300 years of commitment to objective truth and betraying the tenets of Quakerism itself.
This “woke” trend has overrun Quaker education in Greater Philadelphia, where about two dozen Quaker K–12 schools and three Quaker colleges operate, from tony Main Line suburbs to the bucolic countryside. Among the 22 regional K–12 schools listed by the Friends Council on Education, 17 have adopted similar diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) statements. Chester County’s Westtown School, for example, touts programming that will “strive to uncover and undo our collective ....

Frisch Receives Middle States Re-Accreditation

By Yaelle Frohlich | December 23, 2020
Yeshivat Frisch has been recommended for re-accreditation by the Middle States Association Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools for another seven-year term, in a glowing report commending the school’s student-centered educational approach, values-infused environment, extraordinary warmth and exceptional leadership. The oral report was delivered on December 9 to the entire Frisch faculty by Christopher Leonard, chair of the Middle States visitation team that evaluated Frisch.
The report commended Frisch’s academic program of Judaic and general studies. “The school has a clearly defined scope of courses over the four years of high school, as well as a process for evaluating curriculum on a regular basis,” said Leonard. “As evidenced by strong SAT and ACT scores, as well as an impressive pattern of college acceptances, the school’s courses lead to college and career readiness following their completio ....

Soprano Keisha Hirlinger shares her many talents in every way

For instance, take the one that says “Those who can, do; Those who can’t teach.”
Well, in the case of Philadelphia native Keisha Hutchins Hirlinger, nothing could be further from the truth.
A bonafide singer/songwriter who has already produced three CDs, and whose musical talents have been displayed everywhere from Carnegie Hall to local clubs, Hirlinger is also a much sought-after teacher.
Classically-trained at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Hirlinger says she has been exploring, blending and bending all kinds of music, from hip-hop, to country, to the classics, to R&B, and everything in between.
“I was always singing, so, for me, being a musician is who I am,” Hirlinger says. “I always wanted to sing and share my music with others. I don’t think I ever had dreams of becoming rich and famous. I just wanted to be able to make a living with my music. And even though today I teach full time at Abington Friends Schoo ....
