Florida-educated athletes representing at the Tokyo Games Swimmers, runners, jumpers and even a one-person dinghy racer set to compete at one-of-a-kind Olympic Games. Watch out for Gators! The University of Florida is sending one of its largest contingents of Olympic athletes to the Tokyo Games. The Gators will be joined by Bulls from the University of South Florida, Seminoles from Florida State University and Knights from the University of Central Florida. It’s sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle as athletes compete in stadiums empty of spectators because of the COVID-19 pandemic. These athletes who have made Florida home for at least part of their lives will be competing in 13 sports: baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, diving, golf, gymnastics, one-person dinghy racing, paratriathalon, soccer, softball, swimming and track & field and weightlifting.

GREENSBORO, N.C. After running the third-fastest time in Clemson history for the men’s 800 meters at the Miramar Invitational on Saturday, April 10, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced today that Kameron Jones has been named the ACC Men’s Track Performer of the Week. Jones, a native of San Diego, Calif., earns his first weekly conference honor following today’s announcement. At the Miramar Invitational, Jones produced an excellent showing of 1:47.33 in men’s half-mile, crossing the line in second overall and just four-hundredths of a second behind Atlanta Track Club’s Abe Alvarado. Alvarado and Jones pulled away from the field during the race’s final stretch, crossing the line nearly a full second ahead of Saturday’s third-place finisher. As the lone collegiate athlete in the field, Jones beat notable names such as Andres Arroyo (1:50.21) and Matthew Centrowitz (1:50.97). Barton, Jones Set to Race World-Class Talent at Miramar Invitational CLEMSON, S.C.   Laurie Barton and Kameron Jones are set to face some of track and field’s top talent on Saturday, April 10, as the two Tigers will compete in their respective 800-meter races during the Miramar Invitational in Miramar, Fla. The meet, set to be held at the Ansin Sports Complex, will primarily host Olympic and World Championship caliber athletes. Barton will race the women’s 800m at 1:08 p.m., while Jones will run his 800m at 1:18 p.m. “We have very high expectations for this meet,” said Clemson’s Director of Track and Field, Mark Elliott. “It’s very rare to find meets like this within the United States at this time of the year. Our goal is to always give each of our athletes the best opportunity to maximize their fitness and potential, so I’m excited to see what they can do.”
