Canada Wide Science Fair honours Sudbury students

The 2021 Canada Wide Science Fair (CWSF) was a virtual event this year and Sudbury Regional Science Fair is celebrating the success of the seven participants who attended the national science fair competition held May 17 to May 21. Although the fair was virtual, it was still hosted by Carleton University in the city of Ottawa.
The best six projects at the Sudbury Regional Science Fair were selected to attend this year’s CWSF. In addition to presenting their science fair projects, the seven students and two delegates were encouraged to participate in numerous online activities.

UPDATE: Police respond to reported gunfire in Capreol

Reports of possible gunshots necessitated a significant police presence in Hanmer on Thursday.
Greater Sudbury Police said through Twitter that officers were on scene in the afternoon at St. Michel Street, Cote Boulevard and Capreol Road.

UPDATE: Police respond to reported gunfire in Hanmer Back to video
Police were assisting staff and guardians with getting students on buses and into vehicles, police said, while clarifying there was “no immediate threat to (the) school.”
The police service subsequently announced students from St. Anne Elementary School had been “safely loaded onto buses or picked up by guardians.” ....

New COVID-19 cases, another travel advisory
Among new case counts of COVID-19 yesterday into today. The Porcupine Health Unit says one new case has been confirmed. It is linked to international travel and an air travel exposure advisory has been issued. Through the case investigation, the health unit says there “may have been a potential low risk exposure to the public” to passengers on the Dec. 12 Air Canada 2:25 p.m. flight inbound from Toronto. Those in rows 8 to 12 are being asked to self monitor.
Meanwhile the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit has reported one new case of COVID. The person is between the ages of 20 and 39. They came into contact with the virus through the close contact, and is isolating. ....
