York woman supports university heart research

A WOMAN from York, who lives with a pacemaker, has backed research from the University of Leeds which will look into benefits of personalised programming for the devices.
The researchers at the University of Leeds, funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), will investigate how people living with heart failure can benefit from personalised pacemaker programming.
Anne Dixon, 67, had a heart attack in 2011 and was diagnosed with heart failure two years later.
Anne, from York, now lives with a pacemaker and said she has experienced “several benefits” after her device received personalised programming. ....

It’s not every day you see an elaborate bouquet of flowers erupting from a city garbage can, but that’s exactly what could be spotted in Lawrenceville last week and more unexpected blooms are on the way.
Located on the corner of 43rd and Butler streets, the florals were the third in a series of pop-up floral installations by Fox and the Fleur owner Anne Dickson, who has operated her full-service, online floral business from her Fox Chapel garage since 2016.
A mother of three boys who previously worked for Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabbana, Dickson says she came up with the idea for the installations after seeing florist Lewis Miller Design’s “Flower Flash” project in New York City.  ....

Obesity poses an increased risk for severe Covid-19
For the study, researchers looked at data on 148,494 adults who received a Covid-19 diagnosis during either an ED or inpatient visit at 238 hospitals in the United States between March and December 2020. The researchers then calculated the body mass index (BMI) of each patient and identified correlations between BMI and several adverse health outcomes, including the need for hospitalization, ICU admission, the need for mechanical ventilation, and death. ....
