The Ministry of Commerce and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) are developing a coherent and comprehensive National Priority Sectors Export Strategy (NPSES) for Pakistan to achieve its trade growth ambition.
The commerce ministry and the TDAP recently conducted value chain consultations on priority sectors in the context of the Strategic Trade Policy Framework, said a statement issued by the British embassy in Islamabad.
During the consultations, high-level public and private sector representatives agreed on a strategic vision for Pakistan’s trade growth, under the title “Pakistan to become a dynamic and efficient domestic market and a globally competitive export-driven economy”. ....

An online pre-budget symposium on export competitiveness amid Covid-19 in Pakistan was held jointly by SDPI and UK Aid on Thursday. Officials and experts discussed how the upcoming trade policy framework could be more relevant, how to use software and other online platforms to access the internet and adapt to the new normal, and how to attract domestic and international investment to boost Pakistan’s exports, etc.
COVID-19 with its challenges, has also brought certain opportunities for countries like Pakistan, as well as opportunities for adapting to new business models. In this regard, Pakistan has to prepare for reaching to the non-traditional markets and open up other sectors for investment. ....

Without engaging local communities and civil society organisations, the government cannot achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations for 2030.
This was said at the recently held annual national awards ceremony at the head office of HANDS, a non-government organisation. The ceremony’s slogan was ‘Connecting Communities to 2030’.
Dr Abdul Ghaffar Billo, philanthropist and founder of HANDS, said they had strong economic support from all the provincial governments, especially Sindh, as well as international development partners, including Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) United Kingdom and USAID. ....

LAHORE: Former governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Dr Shamshad Akhtar, said good-quality and open and easy access to statistics and data is critical for Pakistan’s sound policy making and project design.
She said as country came out of the shadows of the pandemic, digital connectivity to, among others, deepen financial inclusion have emerged to be sustainable solution to reduce poverty and rejuvenate the economy. She expressed these views while addressing as a keynote speaker at a webinar on launch of Karandaaz Data Portal on Pakistan’s Financial Indicators.
