In 2008, she was expelled from Ballou High in Southeast Washington for fighting. Again. She was 15. A friend from her Congress Park neighborhood had been stabbed by a girl from a rival neighborhood, and a brawl involving more than 20 girls had erupted inside the school. Five of them, including Hawkins, were kicked out. This time, there would be no coming back. “Congress Park girls were known to fight and Alexis was a fighter,” recalled Edwin Buckner, a D.C. police officer who was assigned to Ballou at the time. “She was also an A student and never bothered anyone. But she would not back down from a fight if it involved her neighborhood.” ....

TUSCUMBIA â Opening season for Heinie Manush Field in Tuscumbia is celebrated on Saturday, April 17 with two old style baseball games beginning at noon and a host of other events all day. Heinie Manush Day was first promoted as part of the Alabama bicentennial. The event was so successful, that a non profit was formed to make Heinie Manush Day an annual event. The Manush Family is very involved and want to leave this as their legacy,â according to Heinie Manush Day, chairperson, Annie Cooper. Heinie Manush Day, Inc. has partnered with the Tennessee Association of Vintage Baseball and we are working together to continue this baseball event. We will be playing two games,â Cooper added. âThe first one is with the league and the second is with volunteers.
