Date Time Midvale Skate Park now open A million-dollar skate park is now open in Midvale for the young people of Midland and surrounds. The skate park, jointly funded by the City of Swan and Lotterywest, is a space for skaters of all ages and abilities to socialise, learn and practice their skills together. The City of Swan has worked closely with the community to plan and deliver the region’s newest recreation space, which features concrete skate elements, a bowl, bike pump station and racks, drinking fountains and surrounding picnic settings. Date Time Governor-General visits City of Swan and bushfire-impacted community His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and Her Excellency Mrs Hurley, have visited the City of Swan community to reflect on the recent Wooroloo bushfire, and to thank those involved in recovery efforts on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Their Excellencies met with local residents in the fire-affected area last week and toured the devastated area to better understand the destruction, noting the resilience of the local community in rebuilding and recovering from the disaster. They also met with volunteers from East and West Gidgegannup Bushfire Brigades, and organisations helping with recovery including the Gidgegannup Country Women’s Association (CWA), Red Cross, BlazeAid, and Disaster Relief Australia. ....
Date Time Council votes to provide relief to bushfire-impacted property owners City of Swan Council have voted to apply rates concessions to bushfire-affected residents and waive building and planning application fees, representing an estimated $476,000 saving for ratepayers and those rebuilding in the fire affected area. For ratepayers, the decisions made at the April 14 Council Meeting means: For properties that are damaged but the house is habitable, the City will apply a one-off pro-rata credit for the 2020/21 Council rates for the period from 1 February to 30 June 2021. For properties that are destroyed and the houses are not habitable, the City will apply a one-off credit for the full 2020/21 Council rates. ....
