CBI registers case against Anil Deshmukh
The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a first information report (FIR) against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in connection with allegations of bribery levelled against him by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. The agency carried out searches at various locations, including his residence, in Mumbai on Saturday in connection with the case.

Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh appeared before probe agency CBI today for questioning in connection with the allegations of corruption against him by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh, an official said.

Ravi Shankar Prasad said all facets of allegations against Anil Deshmukh should be investigated and those involved brought to book.
Training its guns on Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the BJP said on Monday that he has forfeited the moral authority to govern after the Bombay High Court asked the CBI to probe allegations of corruption against Anil Deshmukh.
Addressing a press conference here, senior BJP leader and Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad asked if Thackeray has no moral responsibility following Deshmukh s resignation as the state home minister.
So many major incidents have happened under his government, Prasad said, referring to the Sachin Vaze case and former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh s corruption allegations against Deshmukh.

The Bombay High Court today ordered the CBI to carry out a preliminary probe within 15 days into former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh s allegations against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
Param Bir Singh, who was recently replaced as Mumbai Police chief, has alleged in a petition that he was targeted because he had complained to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray about Anil Deshmukh, listing several allegations including extortion and illegal transfers. I have no comments to make, Mr Singh told reporters on the court order.
In the previous hearing, the High Court had asked Mr Singh repeatedly why no FIR was filed on his allegations against the Maharashtra Home Minister.
