SRINAGAR : Remembering the immense contributions of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the Architect of fully integrated & Modern India, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha today addressed a National Webinar to mark the birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee as part of Azaadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, here at Raj Bhavan.
Paying rich tributes and respect to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary, the Lt Governor said that Dr. Mookerjee had made immense contributions to the Constitution of India, India’s politics, education and modern industries.
“I believe Dr. Mookerjee’s arrival in Jammu and Kashmir, 68 years ago, in May 1953, was the first Swadeshi movement of the country after independence. And today his Tapobhoomi is illuminated with development as his dream turned into reality many years after his arrival”, the Lt Governor noted. ....

An invitation letter for the open-to-all online lecture was uploaded on the Visva-Bharati’s website late on Tuesday
Visva-Bharati’s plan to hold an online lecture on May 18 to delve into the reasons for the BJP’s electoral debacle in Bengal had to be cancelled within 12 hours of its announcement on Tuesday following protests from various quarters, including Prime Minister and chancellor Narendra Modi’s nominee in the university’s executive council.
Sources said Visva-Bharati vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakrabarty had taken the initiative to hold an online lecture to analyse “Why BJP failed to win West Bengal Assembly Election?”. ....

Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh on Friday told his colleagues that he had asked national leaders to leave for Delhi and the local unit would be able to manage on its own, multiple sources in the party said.
Several state BJP leaders claimed that Ghosh’s statement finally vindicated Mamata Banerjee’s claim that the people campaigning for the saffron camp during the Bengal elections were “bohiragawto (outsiders)”.
“While addressing us, Dilipda said he was asked by the central leaders if they should stay or leave. He said he had told them to leave if they wanted to and the state unit could take care of the party’s affairs in Bengal,” a state committee member of the BJP said. ....

Kolkata/New Delhi: As the death toll in post-poll violence in West Bengal rose to 14 on Tuesday from six a day before, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialled governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and expressed “serious anguish and concern” over the “worrisome” law and order situation in the state. The 14 killed include nine BJP cadres in West Bengal, and four from TMC. ....
