The boyfriend of 15-year-old homicide victim Janaria Muhammad was a gang member who had been involved in a shooting nine days before Muhammad was killed outside her home, records show. Muhammad, also known as NaNa, was shot twice during a drive-by the night of Feb. 16 in the front yard of her East Knoxville home, autopsy records reveal. Her killing remains unsolved. Her death is one of five deadly shootings involving students who attended Austin-East High School this year. The violence has led to calls for more community resources and a debate over the presence of law enforcement in Knox County Schools.

Jamarion Dada Gillette, 15, killed in Knoxville shooting

A city unnerved and upset by the fatal shootings of three teenagers since Jan. 27 learned Wednesday morning that a 15-year-old aspiring rap artist had been shot and died overnight. Jamarion Gillette, who went by the nicknames Lil Dada and Dada, died at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after he was discovered shot and brought there Tuesday night , according to family members who spoke Wednesday to Knox News. Gillette was a talented artist dedicated to improving himself through his music, his family members said. Music was his outlet, his cousin Marshia Gillette told Knox News.  That was his comfort zone to speak on his life and what he done seen growing up in the community and being around the community, she said.  He was good at it.

She was beautiful, said Woodruff. Only 15 years old. She was very active. She didn t sit around, she got active in her community. Janaria was a dancer, played volleyball and basketball, and was very involved as a freshman at Austin-East High School. Her friends called her Nana.
