After two action-packed days at the World Athletics Relays Silesia 21, Olympic qualification has been secured and teams from around the world have begun their charge to Tokyo.
It wouldn’t be the relays without a few thrills and spills and the competition at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow on 1-2 May certainly didn’t disappoint, with wins for Italy, Cuba, South Africa, hosts Poland, Germany and the Netherlands on Sunday, which followed triumph for Poland and Germany on day one.

Ecuador’s women’s 4x100 metres team, who arrived in Poland ranked 40
th in the world standings, will be among the 16 teams contesting the Olympic title this summer after setting a national record of 43.86sec tonight at the World Athletics Relays Silesia21.
That performance in a cool and empty Silesian Stadium was enough to give them one of the two fastest loser places in a final tomorrow where all eight teams are guaranteed a place in Tokyo 2020.
Ecuador finished third in their heat behind winners The Netherlands, who clocked 43.28, the fastest time of the night, and hosts Poland, whose time of 43.64 was the third fastest behind that of the final heat winners France, who recorded 43.51. ....

There was success for the host nation Poland on an action-packed first evening of competition at the
World Athletics Relays Silesia 21, with Joanna Jozwik and Patryk Dobek teaming up to win the 2x2x400m.
It was the first of two finals at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow on Saturday (1), with Germany winning the shuttle hurdles relay ­and a whole host of competitive 4x100m and 4x400m heats taking place. ....
