The 10 to watch - who will lead Buckinghamshire Council?
The first Bucks unitary elections are over and the results are in – the Conservatives have come out on top, taking 113 seats and the overall majority at Buckinghamshire Council.
The next step is for the controlling party to name a man or woman to lead the council for the next four years.
Former leader Martin Tett, who was elected in the Little Chalfont and Amersham Common ward, confirmed at the Chiltern count on Saturday he would be putting himself forward for the position again.
Our sources also told us challengers are expected to vie for his position as the group will decide who it could be – but there has been confirmation on rumoured names. ....

Two independent councillors elected amid sea of blue in South Bucks


Other parties did not get a look-in in South Bucks today as the Conservatives triumphed again. 
Only Alison Wheelhouse in Beaconsfield and Paul Griffin in Iver were not Tory party winners. 
In Beaconsfield, Alison gained 1,620 votes, while former education cabinet member Anita Cranmer was elected with 1,726 votes and town councillor Jackson Ng got the most with 1,771. 
Labour candidates Louise Kavanagh and Ian Tunnacliffe didn t fare too well in Beaconsfield, gaining 368 and 241 respectively and putting them in eighth and tenth place - out of 10. 
In Cliveden, Zoe Hatch stepped up to the task for the Green Party again after unsuccessfully running for the Beaconsfield constituency in the General Election in 2019, but it wasn t to be yet again - gaining a respectful 1,099 votes.  ....

The first Bucks unitary council elections are over and the results are in.
Buckinghamshire residents went to the polls on Thursday for the first time since the new Buckinghamshire Council came into existence back in April 2020 – one year later than planned because of the Covid pandemic.
With Friday a mostly administrative day, results were revealed throughout today (Saturday) with some surprises in store.
As expected, the Conservatives won a majority, taking 113 seats, while the Lib Dems came in second with 15 seats, followed by the Independents (six seats), Labour (four seats), Independent Network (two seats) and the Green Party getting a seat. ....

Bucks primary school pupils to return as normal on Monday - despite calls to keep schools closed in Tier 4 areas

Primary school children in Bucks will “return as normal” on January 4, the council has said – despite calls to keep them closed after a ‘major incident’ was declared in the county.
It was announced earlier this week that primary schools in parts of England heavily affected by Covid-19 – including many parts of London and the south-east – will remain closed for two weeks to everyone but vulnerable children and those whose parents are key workers.
Hundreds of Bucks residents signed a petition demanding schools remain closed in Tier 4 areas to curb the spread of coronavirus. ....
