Long Beach has written 11 citations for people violating the city's mask mandate • Long Beach Post News


Since the pandemic began, Long Beach has issued a total of 124 citations for violations of the city’s health orders but just 11 were for people not abiding by the city’s mask mandate, according to a City Council memo released Tuesday.

All of the mask citations went to businesses where employees were spotted by city officials not wearing masks, according to the memo authored by Long Beach Development Services Director Oscar Orci.
In Long Beach, mask citations include fines that start at $100 but can escalate to $500 depending on how many citations have been issued to an individual business, according to Rick De La Torre, a spokesperson for the city’s Development Services department, which includes code enforcement. ....

Long Beach will enter 'yellow' tier at midnight clearing way for larger business reopenings • Long Beach Post News


Long Beach will enter the state’s “yellow” tier Thursday after city health officials finalized an updated health order that will increase capacity for many businesses in the city and let bars operate inside without having to serve food for the first time since the pandemic began last March.

The yellow tier is the state’s least restrictive level for reopening the economy and will largely allow restaurants, gyms, breweries and other businesses that have indoor operations to increase their operating capacity from the previous orange tier restrictions.
LA County is the first in Southern California to achieve that mark since the state switched to color-coded tiers last year. It’s the only county south of Alpine County, a rural area near the Nevada border south of Lake Tahoe, that has moved into the state’s least restrictive tier.
