With chip supplies constrained, Analog Devices delays California factory closure

(Reuters) - Analog Devices Inc is delaying the closure of a California chip factory as sales boom and supplies remain tight, the company’s chief executive told Reuters after the company reported better-than-expected quarterly results.
ADI previously said it would close its semiconductor factory in Milpitas, California, which makes chips for the automotive industry, sometime before the company’s fiscal year ends in October. In December, ADI told California regulators the plant’s 255 employees would be laid off by Feb. 19.
But ADI Chief Executive Officer Vincent Roche on Wednesday said the plant will stay open longer due to tight supplies that could persist through October. ....

Paul Smith holds a doctorate in atmospheric science and works on the front lines of climate change science, collecting carbon readings from a remote site in sub-artic Sweden. One of his many jobs involves climbing a 150-meter mast to maintain an array of air quality sensors. (Paul Smith)

Obtaining carbon readings from the atmosphere in minus-30 degree Centigrade weather during mid-winter in Sweden sounds like a job for an extreme athlete.
Paul Smith does that work, even though he is more of an extreme research engineer with a few athletic skills to boot. With a doctorate in atmospheric science from the University of Leeds, he manages and serves as principal investigator at the ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System) Atmospheric Station in the subarctic Svartberget Forest near Vindeln, Sweden. ....

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is looking at developing a roadmap for ramping up the roll out of Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) in collaboration with Prasar Bharati in a phased manner.
Terrestrial TV broadcasting in India is under the exclusive domain of Prasar Bharati and is mainly being done in analog mode of transmission. Analog terrestrial TV broadcasting is being phased out across the globe due to poor quality of reception and with analog technologies becoming obsolete. ....
