Boris Johnson backs monument campaign


Boris Johnson yesterday backed plans for a national Covid memorial at St Paul’s Cathedral, telling the Commons it would be a ‘fitting place of reflection’.
The Prime Minister announced the creation of a commission to examine ways for the nation to remember the victims of the ‘gravest crisis since the Second World War’.
And he specifically praised plans backed by the Daily Mail to create a magnificent memorial at the cathedral in central London.
Mr Johnson told MPs there was a ‘solemn duty on our whole United Kingdom to come together and cherish the memories of those who have been lost’. He said he had been ‘deeply moved’ by a late night visit to the Covid memorial wall mural opposite Parliament earlier this month. ....

Over 800 packed lunches provided to families by community volunteer group


A community group has made over 850 grab bags for children for lunches through the Easter holidays.
Shadsworth and Whitebirk Big Local has supported local families over the past fortnight making 862 grab bags of lunches for children while they are on holiday from school.
The local community group supports the people of Shadsworth, Whitebirk and Romney Walk by providing food for children, delivering food parcels to those vulnerable or shielding and putting on sessions for youth debt advice.
Manager of the project, Mohammed Khan, is supported by five volunteers, Annette Allen, Elaine Samson, Alan Samson, Shave Calvert and Abdul Qadoos.
Mohammad said: “We have had some really positive feedback from parents and I think they have appreciated all the work that has been undertaken from the volunteers. ....

DAVENPORT, Iowa Just inside the Friendly House in Davenport, the Quad City community is celebrating the Easter holiday.
It was part of a second annual event hosted by a Quad City nonprofit. They gave away Easter baskets, and the Easter Bunny made an appearance, too, said Annette Allen.
I mean it s for the community, said Allen.
Allen started her Starz-n-Black nonprofit two years ago, and rented space at the Friendly House for this year s Easter event. This was the first year, though, Starz-n-Black held its event at the Friendly House. ....
