The agreement with Ballad, a not-for-profit system based in Johnson City, Tenn., marks RIP Medical Debt s first debt purchase directly from a hospital. RIP previously only bought medical debt from debt collectors. A July 2020 HHS Office of Inspector General advisory opinion opened the door for hospitals to sell or donate debt direct to the group. More than 26,000 people in Southwest Virginia will soon have overdue bills owed to Ballad Health and its legacy companies discharged, with no strings attached. The debts were abolished by a $3 million donation from The Secular Society, a Blacksburg-based nonprofit, through a partnership with New York-based RIP Medical Debt. Using donations, RIP purchases unpaid medical accounts for pennies on the dollar and then forgives the debts. âThe Secular Society sought to restore peace of mind and creditworthiness to people living in Southwestern Virginia who incurred cumbersome medical debt when they sought the basic human right of health care,â according to a society news release. ....

RESTORED: Susie Massey (Tourist Information Centre Officer) at the Pepperpot, Upton Upon Severn A POPULAR historic landmark in Upton-upon-Severn has been restored to its original glory. The Pepperpot, which is situated in Church Street next to Upton Tourist Information Centre, has undergone a renovation to strip the paint to reveal the original brickwork beneath and reflect the feel of the original tower. Work on the Grade II listed landmark took place over six weeks during lockdown to carefully remove the paint from the walls, repair and stabilise any cast iron objects, as well as carry out repointing works. The landmark houses the Heritage Centre which provides a timeline around the tower, with information boards and artefacts from Upton-upon-Severn’s past. ....
