The first is a citywide cultural competition for high school students from the five boroughs. The second is a virtual teach-in, the Juneteach Virtual Village, exploring the intersection of racism and politics. Geared to high school and college students, it will be held Friday, June 18. While African American families have celebrated Juneteenth since the late 1800s, the real significance of the holiday has only recently gained mainstream awareness, said Courtney A.
