Eric Jack named Royalston Fire Chief Erick Jack is Royalston’s new fire chief CONTRIBUTED PHOTO Modified: 12/13/2020 2:44:45 PM ROYALSTON The Selectboard has chosen a firefighter with nearly 25 years of experience to take the reins as fire chief. Eric Jack, a captain with the Athol Fire Department, was hired by a unanimous vote of the board. He succeeds Chief Keith Newton, who has retired after serving 47 years in the department. Jack, a lifelong resident of Athol, joined the National Guard after graduating from Athol High School. “Then I got back and enrolled in an EMT class with a friend,” Jack explained. “One of the firefighters in Athol was mutual friend. He said, ‘Hey, we’re getting the ambulance service going in Athol. Why don’t you get on the call department? I got on there, and we took the ambulance over on Jan. 1 of ’97. I was one of the charter members of the ambulance in Athol.” ....
