The 12 finalists for the 2021 WISE Awards have been announced, with the projects – hailing from nine countries – striving to tackle pressing global educational challenges. 
The past year has proven that it is important to innovate in education: many girls are out of school and women insufficiently empowered; millions of elementary students have poor literacy and numeracy skills; refugees struggle to access education; vulnerable communities don’t have access to the necessary social emotional learning to thrive while the digital divide remains a learning barrier.  ....

A decade after civil war broke out, we highlight some of our reports, campaigning and projects with partners that have helped to keep the plight of refugee children in the spotlight.
By 2013 - just two years after the Syria conflict erupted - hundreds of thousands of children had fled with their families to neighbouring countries. Very few of them were in school.
The world was barely beginning to wake up to the long-term effects on an entire generation s education and development. So Theirworld funded a team of experts to explore ways of getting as many Syrian children in Lebanon into school. ....

Ontario has announced an immediate $12.8 million investment to expand and improve culturally appropriate mental health and addictions services across Ontario.
Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, and Michael Tibollo, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions announced funding for the programs on March, 4 as part of the $176 million going toward the Ford government’s Roadmap to Wellness plan to address a mental heath and addictions crisis in the province.
