Patrol Officer Breann Leath (Photo Provided/IMPD East/Facebook) To mark the anniversary, the Indiana Department of Corrections is having an official rededication ceremony of the Maternal-Child Health Unit to rename it in Officer Leath’s honor. A memorial plaque will also be unveiled. The Leath family, DOC executive staff, other state officials and IMPD officers will be in attendance. The Officer Breann Leath Maternal Child Unit was originally named the Wee Ones Nursery, opening in April of 2008. Officer Leath worked in the unit from January 2015 to October 2016, according to the IDOC. Staff offer prenatal and post-partum education, Safe Sleep courses, car seat safety classes and infant nutrition services during the mothers’ stay.

Members of the Indianapolis police community Friday marked one year since the death of IMPD officer Breann Leath, who was fatally shot when responding to a domestic disturbance. Dozens of IMPD officers, along with Leath s family, gathered at the cemetery s Heroes of Public section for an afternoon roll call ceremony. As the ceremony began and IMPD leaders started speaking about Leath, with some officers holding sunflowers in her honor, the sun began to shine. 

IMPD hosts workout challenge to honor Officer Breann Leath

Apr 8, 2021 / 06:37 AM EST INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Recruiting Unit is hosting a memorial workout challenge in honor of fallen officer Breann Leath Thursday evening. The event is free and held at IMPD’s Training Academy at 901 North Post Road. Check-in opens at 5:45 p.m. closes at 6:15 p.m. Event starts at 6:30 p.m. ends at 8:00 p.m. It’s free to attend, but donations are welcomed to benefit Zayn’s Foundation, according to IMPD. The event is organized by Officer Babacar Diouf, former field training officer for Leath. He used her name as an acronym: “Brave, Resilient, and Empowered like #BRE!”
